National Portrait Gallery Exhibition Shop London

The new Ground Floor Exhibition Shop replaces the previous shop serving the Ground Floor temporary gallery.  Unlike the other two shop spaces this room was absent of any notable period detailing and the ceiling heights were considerably lower. We preferred a more direct approach by wrapping over the existing walls with metal back panels supporting continuous metal shelves without any vertical breaks. This horizontal dynamic is further expressed by uninterrupted bands of thin LED light that outline the architecture while lighting the product below. A long anthracite coloured serving counter runs east to west with monolithic ‘terraces’ occupying the central floor areas. These terraces can be extended and adjusted to provide several dynamic configurations.  The ceiling has been replaced and a new lighting scheme has been installed.
