De Bijenkorf Amsterdam

Following the success of De Bijenkorf’s Amsterdam Store, ACA were appointed to reconfigure and re-design the ground floor of Rotterdam’s iconic store designed by Marcel Breuer between 1953 and 1957. Sympathetic to the original design, our first goal was to undo decades of modifications that either concealed or disturbed most of the original framework and fabric. Similar to the Amsterdam store, we provided legibility and focus to the stores architectural framework and re-defined the entrances and the circulation routes between the retail zones and brands. We developed a series of guidelines for the brands to follow ensuring a complimentary appearance throughout the floor. Our role extended to designing and delivering a series of dynamic display structures for the Fragrance, Leatherwear and Watches & Jewellery departments.
